Tamil writer and screenwriter (NOTA, Paava Kadhaigal, Enemy, Parasakthi) turned tech leader. Marathoner and triathlete.

Shan Karuppusamy, whose given name is Shanmugam Karuppusamy, is an award-winning Tamil writer from Perundurai, Tamil Nadu. He has published eleven books of poetry, short stories and novels, and won the Sujatha Award for Internet Writing early in his career. His novel Vettattam was adapted into the feature film NOTA, for which he co-wrote the screenplay with director Anand Shankar. His short story Thangam became a segment of Netflix's Tamil anthology Paava Kadhaigal, directed by Sudha Kongara, and he wrote its script and lyrics. He also wrote the screenplay and dialogues for Enemy, and the dialogues for Parasakthi, released in 2026.

By profession, Shan brings over 25 years of experience in the IT industry. He serves as Executive Vice President of Product Management at ELB Learning and is a recognised technology evangelist who speaks regularly at global eLearning and technology seminars. He runs marathons and competes in triathlons in his free time. Shan co-founded Sapien Sangam with fellow writers and later launched Sapien Science and Sapien Geno with the same team of friends.

Sridhar Subramaniam is a Chennai-based Tamil and English writer, public thinker, feminist, political philosopher, human rights advocate and open atheist. He holds a mathematics degree from the University of Madras, with further study in information technology and journalism, and he read English and Humanities at Oxford Brookes University in the UK. After working in a few organisations, he became an entrepreneur and now runs his own start-up. He has blogged in English for about two decades and has written actively in Tamil on social media for roughly the last ten years, covering politics, religious fundamentalism, feminism and Indian history.

Sridhar's decade of writing on Facebook, spanning subjects from the hand-axe as humanity's first invention to Dr L Subramaniam's place in world music, laid the intellectual foundation for Sapien Sangam. He co-founded the channel to carry his ideas beyond the written word to a wider audience.

Sivaraman, who writes under the pen name Halasyan, is a dedicated communicator, cultural explorer and writer who brings complex ideas to life in the Tamil language. He is passionate about bridging the gap between classical Tamil literature and modern scientific inquiry, and he has authored six published works that make science engaging, accessible and rooted in linguistic tradition. His popular science titles include Nunnuyirgal Or Eliya Arimugam (Microbes: An Easy Introduction) and Enginegal Or Eliya Arimugam (Engines: An Easy Introduction), alongside essay collections such as Andrada Arivial and Aacharyamoottum Arivial.

Venkatarangan Thirumalai is a Founder Catalyst and technology visionary with over three decades of experience in software services. He founded Vishwak Solutions in 1996 and grew it into a globally recognised company with a presence in India, Seattle and London, and he later co-founded a fintech start-up that introduced business document management through Azure AI. Known for insights that cut through industry hype, he predicted the rise of mobile phones as the primary computing device in developing regions back in 2003, and he has been an Honorary Microsoft Regional Director since 1999 and a Senior Member of IEEE.

Venkatarangan is an advisor to the Dr APJ Abdul Kalam International Foundation, House of Kalam, Rameswaram, and his passion for Tamil language computing drives his involvement with the Tamil Virtual Academy's digital library and computing projects. He is the author of a Tamil book on consumer technology titled Nutpam, and he has blogged at venkatarangan.com for twenty years, writing over 4,000 posts read by more than two million readers. He is based in Chennai.
